An incident of violence was reported in Kolkata's Park Circus area on Sunday during a Ram Navami procession. A car decorated with saffron flags was attacked and vandalised while reportedly halted at the Park Circus crossing traffic signal. A video from the scene shows the car’s windows shattered and glass pieces scattered inside. The owner of the vehicle alleged that the attack was carried out in a “pre-planned” manner by members of the Muslim community. The attack occurred while the procession was passing through the locality.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the procession was moving peacefully through the area when the car was targeted. According to those present at the site, police personnel were deployed nearby but did not take any action to stop the attack. Locals alleged that the police remained silent despite being at the scene during the incident.
As of now, no formal police complaint has been filed in connection with the incident. There has been no official response from the West Bengal government, the Kolkata Police, the Trinamool Congress, or any other political party. Other areas of Kolkata and West Bengal witnessed Ram Navami celebrations taking place without any reported disruptions.
